The death has occurred of:

Raymond J. Carr

CARR, Raymond J. (Highland Mills, New York) - July 8, 1935 – September 28, 2022 (peacefully), at home surrounded by his loving family; he was 87 years old. The son of the late Mary Josephine (Doyle) and Robert Raymond Carr, he was born on July 8, 1935, in Dublin, Ireland. Ray met his wife Margaret (Rita) at a dancehall in Clondalkin, Ireland and they started their married life together on March 30, 1959. Along with their daughters Audrey & Deirdre, they emigrated to the Bronx in June of 1962, where they lived happily until 1978. During this time they welcomed two more children, Robert Raymond and Gillian Rita. Ray was an active member of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish, specifically the Tolentine Father’s Club. Ray worked in NYC as an electrician and began commuting each day from their new home in Greenwood Lake in 1978, and then from Monroe until 2005. In his semi-retirement, Ray happily spent his final five years of employment as an electrician for John S. Burke Catholic High School. Raymond will be remembered by his family and all who knew him as the ultimate gentleman and family man. He worked very hard all of his life and spent every minute of his free time with his wife, children, and finally his grandchildren. On his days off, he and his children explored every park and museum NYC had to offer. Van Cortland, Inwood, and Central Park were their playgrounds. In later years, he tried to never miss their sporting events or school programs and then continued with his grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humor and we could always count on him for a one-liner that would come out of nowhere, a “Poppyism”. He was always close to his family in Ireland and spent many happy vacations reconnecting with his siblings and cousins, who also visited frequently throughout the years. He loved music, especially the 40’s, dancing (he & his wife were the best swing dancers), old movies, and reading. He had a tremendous faith in Our Lord and was a parishioner at St. Anastasia in Harriman. In retirement, he was a daily communicant. We know he was carried by the angels right into the arms of God. Raymond is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of sixty-three years; his children and their spouses: Audrey Clarke (Thomas), Deirdre McCormack (Kevin), Bobby Carr (Carrie) and Gillian Farrell (Thomas); his grandchildren: Michael, Robert, Colleen, Matthew, Brian, Connor, Timmy, Patrick, Molly, Keith, Caroline, Rory, and Cate; and his great-grandchildren: Luke, Clare, Christopher, Madeline, and Maggie; and by his sister Nellie Bailey, and his brother Brian. In addition to his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his siblings: Marie, Billy, Bernie, Seamus, Anthony, Ann, Pat, Desi, and Valerie, and by his son-in-law, Ed Toste. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 2pm-5pm at Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY 10950. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, October 3rd at The Church of St. Anastasia, 110 Route 17M, Harriman, NY, followed by interment at St. Anastasia Cemetery.
